I'm very sad to announce that Ultimate Painting are no longer a band. Anyone who has worked with us knows that the partnership at the core of this band has always been a very fragile thing, but due to an irreconcilable breakdown we will no longer be working with each other. Obviously if there's no band, then it's understandably not really in Bella Union's interests to put out the previously announced album, therefore I’ve asked them not to release 'Up!’ at this point in time, which they have agreed to. Thanks to everyone who bought our records and supported us. You know who you are. - Jack Cooper

James and Jack are currently taking their time to record a fourth record after three albums in three years. Over January and February, Jack recorded his first solo album at home in Stoke Newington, playing most of the instruments himself.

'Sandgrown' is nine concisely beautiful songs inspired by his hometown of Blackpool and his upbringing on England’s Fylde Coast.

Evoking the delicate but often widescreen musicality of Bill Fay and the abstract lyricism of the late 60s Scott Walker records, as well as the more experimental sounds of John Cale and Robert Wyatt, Sandgrown's tranquil ballads evoke feelings of nostalgia and re-evaluation about where you come from, wherever that may be. The second single from our new record Dusk is now streaming via  - It's called Song For Brian Jones. The video was made by our new pal James Sharp. We've also announced new US shows including our biggest ever show at Bowery Ballroom in New York. EZTV will be joining us for those!

Our third LP is out on September 30th via Trouble In Mind Records. 'Dusk' was recorded at the start of this year in James' home studio in North London. With our friend Melissa Rigby on drums, we think we've made our best record. We're really pleased and excited for you all to hear it. The first song 'Bills' is streaming now on Aquarium Drunkard

We have a whole host of shows and festivals this summer... We're really excited to be heading back to the US for the fifth time and to be spending a couple of weekends in Europe. Something's burning, so keep your ears out over the next few weeks... Don't feel left out if you're town isn't on this list. We'll be back

Thanks to everyone that came out to our recent shows in the USA. Really excited to be coming back to the West Coast this summer and then we're looking at shows in the autumn/fall to coincide with a new album. We just finished recording before leaving for the US, so keep your eyes peeled for more information about that in the next few weeks. Full list of UK/EU/US dates are HERE

Last autumn, Third Man Records asked us to play their Nashville venue and record the set for a live LP. The album is out on May 27th via Third Man. Recorded completely live and directly to tape by their in-house engineer MIndy Watts. It sounds great. Officially out on May 27th but it seems there are already copies floating about. You can listen to a track HERE

To celebrate our recent tour with Woods; Trouble In Mind and Woodsist pressed up 1000 copies of a split 7" featuring two exclusive songs... one by each band. Our contribution 'Into The Darkness' was recorded at the same time as 'Green Lanes' but was left off the record as it seemed to mess with the flow of the LP. Available for a very short time HERE
